Welcome to Developing Mentoring Skills Syllabus

Week 1

Getting acquainted with Yahoo Groups. Introductions.

Participants will introduce themselves to the group, get acquainted with the Yahoo Groups platform, and interact with each other in the wiki. We will introduce the idea for our project  for the EVO: making an individual or group poster using the exchanges produced during the five weeks.

Week product: start an individual or group poster

Venues: Yahoo group and Wiki

Week 2

Seeing and Listening: The basics of mentoring

Participants will read about  these two crucial skills  and  will  exchange opinions through the wiki.

Week product: asynchronous exchange or conversation on 'Tapped-in'.

Week 3

The Mentor as Coach: New roles or harmless platitude?

Coaches have become almost  ubiquitous in the profession, and  in many cases  their role does not quite comply with a "Mentoring Mindset." During this week we will analyze roles and functions generally associated with each role, we'll generate a knowledge base for what we can call "compassionate coaching" and discover, through case studies, the benefits of this form of professional support.

Week product: Webinar

Venue: WebheadsvOffice

Moderator: TBA

Week 4

The Mentoring Conversation.

During  this week, we will hold a Webinar with guest mentor, Ann Rolfe, on the roles of mentors  in other fields.

Week 5

Putting it All Together

We will invite participants to share reflections and arrive at their own main conclusions about mentoring skills and their applications in their individual settings. To wrap up these five weeks  we will share the posters that participants produced with their reflections on the materials and comments shared in the Wiki.

Participants will be invited to give feedback about the session.

Week product: interactive poster, word cloud or tree.

Venue: Wiki
